In the year 1219, during the Battle of Lyndanisse, Danish crusaders faced defeat on foreign ground. Surrounded and outnumbered, hope was slipping away.

Then the sky opened. ​A red flag with a white cross drifted down from above. The soldiers saw it as a divine sign. With renewed strength, they turned the tide and claimed victory. This moment gave birth to Dannebrog, the oldest national flag still in use.
